Checking In!

with one comment

The phrases “checked-in” and “checking-in” have never been more ubiquitous than they are now in today’s social media sharing. People ask:  Have you “checked-in” yet? or I’m “checking-in” right now.
People who belong to Facebook, YELP or Foursquare will understand the meaning of these phrases better than anyone else…on the face of the planet. 100% sure of this statement.

In 2010, a guy named Tim Mather created something for folks to “check-in” to…and share with the masses. It’s called Untappd. It’s similar to Foursquare, but instead of going to places like a restaurant, bar, theater, store, or landmark to share with people, Untappd shares the type of beer you are having with friends and strangers.

Untappd says,

We provide a new way to socially share a brew you’re currently enjoying, as well as where you’re enjoying it, with your friends! Curious what your friends are drinking or where they’re hanging out? Just check out their Untappd profile and comment on their share and find out! It’s a great way to spread your favorite brews and hang outs with your friends.

This is a neat concept for beer lovers…and more specifically for craft brew fans. With Untappd, this platform of sharing allows you to peek into strangers’ homes (no, not like stalking) to see what type of beer they are having at that moment. Craft brew fans get a glimpse into the world of interesting beers that they might not normally see or have even heard about.

Although the app is completely web-based (meaning it doesn’t have an unique iphone or android app), the menu is very user friendly and easy to use.

I guess you can say, “checking in” here will serve you well…but not a cold one in your virtual hands. Try it and provide others with smarts on craft brews!
